Open Knowledge Foundation Greece is pleased to announce the visit of Mrs Renata Ávila Pinto in Greece, who recently took over her current role as CEO of the International Open Knowledge Foundation.It is a great honor for the Open Knowledge Foundation Greece the visit of Mrs Renata Ávila Pinto as significant issues will be discussed regarding the goals, the strategies and partnership schemas for the International and Greek Foundation.The new CEO of the International Open Knowledge Foundation, during her visit to Greece, will deliver the opening speech at the first Experiential Seminar, that will take place as part of the B’ cycle of the project «Non-profits & Media advocating for good!», in which the Open Knowledge Foundation Greece participates as a partner. The aim of the project is to strengthen civil society advocacy and watchdog role in Greece. To achieve that, the project offers a framework of experiential training and collaboration, benefitting media representatives and non-profits’ staff in four cities of Greece.More specifically, the B’ cycle of the two-day Experiential Seminars is held by the Open Knowledge Foundation Greece in collaboration with the School of Journalism and Mass Communications of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. As detailed below, the modules that will be covered during these sessions concern the following:
  • Creation of advocacy strategies through Open Data
  • Data Journalism as a synergy tool between NGOs and Media
  • Information about the Open Data and Open Budget Index
The first Experiential Seminar of the B’ cycle will be held on December, 13th  and 14th in Thessaloniki, and besides the International Open Knowledge Foundation CEO’s speech, keynote speeches will, also, be given by Mr Charalambos Bratsas, president of Open Knowledge Foundation Greece, and Mr Andreas Veglis, professor of School of Journalism and Mass Communications at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. In addition, during the second day, a workshop dedicated to the Open Cities Index recording will take place. Attached is the two-day seminar program.Experiential Seminar Program
The project «Non-profits & Media advocating for good!» is being implemented under the Active citizens fund in Greece by HIGGS (Project Promoter) and its partners, the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Open Knowledge Foundation Greece and Journalism Initiative.The Active citizens fund is supported through a 12m € grant from Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway as part of the EEA Grants 2014 – 2021. The program aims to develop the sustainability and capacity of the civil society sector in Greece, and to strengthen its role in promoting and safeguarding democratic procedures, active citizenship and human rights. The Fund Operator for the Active citizens fund in Greece is Bodossaki Foundation in consortium with SolidarityNow.
