We pioneer globally, playing a central role in creating and promoting open data and open knowledge in Greece.
Never before has such a large volume of data been collected and analyzed. We have never had the ability to share information globally so freely, easily and quickly. Governments and companies use this data to create knowledge about our world and make decisions about our future. But who should control this data and the ability to make predictions and decisions? The many or the few? This is a decision we must make. The future is in our hands.
Do we want to live in a world where access to knowledge is "closed", and the power and understanding it offers is controlled by the few – the "chosen ones"?
Or do we want a world where knowledge is "open" and we all have the power to make the right decisions for our future?
At Open Knowledge Greece, we believe that knowledge should be open, and that everyone – citizens, scientists, entrepreneurs, activists – should have access to the information they need to understand and engage deeply with the world around them. We use technology, discuss and educate people and organizations to encourage them to use the data revolution for good – to provide clarity and accountability, accelerate innovation and research, and create fair and supportive societies.
We lead governments and companies to open essential data – freeing it so everyone can use, share and enrich it.
We create tools and capabilities to transform data into insight, because it is insight – not just data – that empowers citizens, researchers and organizations to understand and change the world.
We have encouraged, pressured and supported government, businesses and researchers to open their data. We have empowered people to use this open data and turn it into knowledge, giving them access to the information they need to understand and shape our society.

Through our events and network both in Greece and abroad, we have been a key guide and connector at the heart of the growing global "open" movement. We were one of the first organizations to work on open data and today we are among the largest communities active in this field.
