Vision

Our Vision

Knowledge is power, and when power is shared, society becomes fairer.

We envision a world where essential information is openly available to everyone. Where transparency is not the exception, but the rule. Where power is not concentrated, but distributed.

A world where we know how governments manage our money, how decisions that affect us are made, and what the real outcomes of policies and elections are. Where companies operate with accountability, and every practice that affects society and the environment becomes visible and subject to scrutiny. Where we have access to the data related to the great challenges of our time, from climate change to poverty, so that we can understand them, address them, and evaluate the solutions.

We believe in a world where information restores the balance of power. Where every person is free to choose, create, and participate.

A world where knowledge is open, accessible, and usable by everyone—citizens, scientists, activists, and entrepreneurs.

Values

Our Values

We are a global network of people passionate about Openness, and we use public support, technology, and education to open up information so that everyone can benefit from open knowledge.

Open Knowledge

All of our activities are connected to Open Knowledge. We consistently uphold the “Open Definition” as the defining concept at the heart of the Openness movement, and we oppose any attempt to restrict or misuse it.

Respect and Tolerance

Respect and tolerance are fundamental prerequisites for the development of our work.

Collaboration, not Control

A culture of collaboration is a core element of all teams, both within and outside our network.

Realistic, not Biased

We unquestionably believe in Openness. This belief is strengthened by our desire for change rather than moral superiority.

Doing and Discussing

Active participation in the use of open knowledge ensures that we remain aware of and engaged with real-world challenges.

Achieving Change

We want to see change in the world, and we want it to happen today, not tomorrow. That is why we focus on important social problems, challenges, and opportunities.
