Why?

Why Open Data?

Open data, and especially open government data, is a fantastic resource that has barely been tapped so far

Open Data, and especially Open Government Data, is a huge data source that has not yet been utilized. Many individuals and organizations collect a wide range of different types of data to fulfill their tasks.

Government data is particularly important in this respect, both because of its quantity and universality and because this data is, from a legal point of view, public data and therefore could be open and available for others to use. But why might this be of interest?

There are many areas where we can expect Open Data to have value, and there are already examples that demonstrate how they have been used. There are also many groups of people and organizations that can benefit from the availability of open data, including governments themselves.

Value Areas

It is already possible to use as reference points areas where open government data has created value. Some of these are:

01

Transparency and democratic control

02

Enhancing participation and participatory democracy

03

Self-empowerment through better understanding

04

Improved or new private products and services

05

Improved performance of public - government services

06

Improved efficiency of public - government services

07

Measuring the impact of policies

08

New knowledge from combining different sources in large data volumes

At the same time, it is impossible to predict accurately how and where value can be added in the future. After all, this is the nature of innovation: many times, developments come from where we least expect them.
